BIOGRAPHY
Evan Smith helps companies deliver measurable results by fostering successful organizational and individual change. As a management consultant, he has worked with associates across a range of start-up ventures, Fortune 100 clients, government agencies and not-for-profit organizations. Recent work has included:
-
Implementing results-driven business strategy
-
Designing and implementing talent acquisition and management approaches
-
Facilitating leadership and change in mid-size firms, and
-
Helping organizations create closer connections between prospect- and customer needs, and the programs, products and services they offer to meet them.
Evan served as head of Global Quality at Cabot Corporation (http://www.cabot-corp.com) in 2000-2001. In this role, and in his consulting work, he has found professional passion in bringing new ventures and ideas to life. In addition to Metamorphosis, signature ventures have included developing and implementing a business plan to establish a successful start-up medical equipment distribution company, and several experiences in helping small manufacturing businesses to bring new products or businesses to market. He’s helped:
-
a high-technology materials company to bring products to market more than 50% faster, with lower acceptance risk;
-
an automotive-plastics joint venture to identify and open a new market for their existing products; and
-
a startup nanotechnology company to find the “sweet spot” for its unique particle technology. Evan helped this company to understand application needs for unique types of customers in several markets, and to build its business and organization to viably produce the material.
Evan started his career in information systems with GE—supporting systems “customers” in getting more value from their systems investments—and he has worked as an executive and manager within companies in aerospace, automotive, chemicals, financial services, information technology, medical products and consumer durables. He has also studied successful cross-organizational product development in the automotive and aerospace industries with Harvard University, on a research project titled “Manufacturing Partnerships in the Digital Environment.”
Evan earned his Masters in Public and Private Management from the Yale School of Organization and Management. He also holds bachelors degrees in Industrial & Management Systems Engineering, and in Liberal Arts, from the Pennsylvania State University. He has taught courses in business (Tufts University), management information systems and knowledge management (the State University of New York/Empire State College), and this fall will teach a course in change management (Cornell School of Industrial and Labor Relations – Organizational Change Certificate Program).
His past and present partnerships with associates have included several years working “client side” on projects with McKinsey & Company (Hartford, CT; Boston, MA); several years as an affiliate of Price Waterhouse Coopers (Boston, MA); six years as a principal with Pro-Active Learning, Inc. (Doylestown, PA); and a decade of work as an affiliate of Robert H. Schaffer & Associates (Stamford, CT). Evan is a member of the Institute of Management Consultants/New York Chapter (IMC), and the Westchester Business Council.
